The constant rain in the hills of Northern Bengal caused on Friday evening (August 29, 2025) landslides in this area, which led to the closure of the National Highway 10, the arterial route connecting Sikkim and West Bengal. All traffic to the NH10 was redirected, which influenced the lives of everyday commuting among more hilly cities connected by a motorway.
In the last few days, the rain has beat several parts of the West Bengal, including the northern region that led to landslides in the Kalimpong area. Restoration work is underway.
“The National Highway Authorities are carrying out renewal work. No victims have been reported from land landslides and no one has been injured. The roads will be open soon,” Hindus said a higher Gorkhaland Territorial Administration official on Saturday.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued an orange warning of the Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts in North Bengals. In the area, rain was reduced, but for both districts there was a yellow warning.
The rare and smaller magic of rain were also observed in other districts of West Bengal, including Kolkata, but no major disasters were reported.
According to the official release of IMD, between 1.-4. September will probably significantly reduce rain across West Bengal.
“The southwestern monsoon was active above North Bengal. Most places were very light to medium collisions with severe to very strong collisions in one or two places above Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling and Alipurduar districts of Northern Bengal,” IMD said from Kolkata Kolkata.
Since the beginning of the monsoon season in East India in 2025, North Bengal witnessed several landslides and road blocking. The Teesta River also increased several times over the danger brand and overflows to several locations along NH10.
5th August part of the tunnel slope near the non-defense of the Sevoke-Rail railway line in the Kalimpong district in North Bengal collapsed in seconds after heavy rainfall. The tunnel is part of the railway project that connects the mountain condition Sikkim with the rest of the railway network of the country.
