The Indian National Promotion and Authorization Center (In-Space) on Tuesday announced the selection of a consortium in India Pixxelspace, which proposes, build and operate the first Indian fully indigenous commercial observation of the country (EO) satellite constellation within the public and private partnership (PPP).
The Pixxelspace India consortium based in Bengalur includes Piersight Space, Satsure Analytics India and Dhruva Space.
He said in the space that the selection of the Pixxelspace India consortium was made after a competitive bid process that included two more consorts.
For the first time in the history of the Indian Sector of the Universe, the private consortium would invested more than 1,200 crore in the next five years to start a constellation of 12 most modern EO satellites equipped with panchrome, multispectral, hyperspectral and microwave aperture (SAR).
The constellation will be provided by the analysis of prepared data (ARD) and added value (VAS) for applications in monitoring climate change, disaster management, agriculture, infrastructure, marine supervision, national security and urban planning, while satisfying global demand for quality geospatial intelligence.
In-Space said that by generating high-resolution, indigenous satellite data, the initiative will significantly reduce India’s dependence on foreign sources, ensure the sovereignty of data and build a country among global leaders in space data solutions.
“This initiative signals the advent of the private cosmic industry of Age of India in the universe sector. It shows the ability and trust of Indian companies to lead extensive, technologically advanced and commercially viable space missions that serve national and global markets.
Within the PPP framework, the Union government will provide strategic, technical and political support, while a consortium led by Pixxelspace India will own and operate the EO system, including satellite production, introduction of Indian land, ground infrastructure and commercialization of data services.
In the space, he added that the EO constellation will be deployed in a gradual way in the next four years to ensure continuous service upgrades and extended coverage.
Once functional, the most advanced EO systems in the world, designed, will be built and operated exclusively in India with Indian talent.
