Congress will get PCC president Mahesh Gouda’s Nizamabad mayoral post

In another hotly contested seat, the Congress won the Nizamabad Municipal Corporation despite the BJP emerging as the single largest party.

Congress candidate Kuragayala Uma Rani was elected mayor while AIMIM’s Salma Tahseen was elected deputy mayor. BJP candidate Bantu Ramu got 31 votes.

In Nalgonda, Burri Chaitanya Srinivas Reddy of Congress was elected as the first ever Mayor of Nalgonda Municipal Corporation. She was elected unanimously as no other candidate applied for the post. Ashraf Ali is the Deputy Mayor.

The Congress swept the old Nalgonda district, winning 16 out of 17 municipalities and one corporation, with R&B minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy taking complete control of the district and securing victory in the corporation.

The Kothagudem issue was settled amicably, CPI candidate Ganesh was elected mayor and the post of deputy mayor went to the Congress. The two parties decided to share the post for two and a half years as they each won 22 wards.

In Mahabubnagar Corporation, Gumala Mamata of the Congress was elected as Mayor and Marepally Surender Reddy as Deputy Mayor.
