The leader of the Maharashtra Congress Vijay Wadettiwar on Tuesday (April 15, 2025) announced plans for Sadbhavan Shanti Yatra in Nagpur, the aim of renewing the municipal harmony after the recent violent clashes focused around the Mughal Aurangzeb.
The peace initiative comes after 17 March, when parts of the city broke out and arson. Violence was caused by a rumor of desecration of religious text during protests requiring the removal of Aurangzeb’s grave place.

“During this March, we are trying to bridge the division, clarify the misconceptions and re -build mutual trust between communities,” Mr. Wadettiwar said.
Police announced significant progress in their investigation, while police commissioner Nagpur Ravinder Singal confirmed 114 detention and 13 registered cases related to violence. In the related development, the team against the enroachment of Nagpur Municipal Corporation demolished March 24th on the residence of two primary accused – Yusuf Sheikh and Faheem Khan.

The announcement triggered political exchanges when reporters questioned Mr. Wadettiwar on the potential Muslim leadership in Congress. The leader of Congress faced: “Rather than chasing us, people should ask whether the party of Bharatiya Janata or Rashtiya Swayamsevak Sangh would ever consider Muslim to be her chief.
