The Congress deliberately concealed the complaints received against Rahul Mamkootathila, MLA, Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) State Secretary MV Govindan.
During the ‘Vote Vibe-2025’ election dialogue organized by the Thrissur Press Club on Thursday, he said several Congress leaders had themselves admitted that as many as nine complaints had been filed against him.
“No opposition front in history has been pushed into such a corner. The Congress is run by a criminal mafia,” alleged Mr. Govindan.
He quoted reports that even Shafi Parambil, MP, was informed about the distressing episodes but no action was forthcoming. “They believe that if the survivor is psychologically broken, she will not file a complaint. That is why cyber attacks are organized,” he said.
Mr. Govindan alleged that Congress leaders like Rajmohan Unnithan and Ramesh Chennithala were targeted by the party’s cyber groups. “Even Mr. Chennithala is silenced by these criminal gangs,” he claimed.
Regarding the allegations against M. Mukesh, MLA, Mr. Govindan said organizational action was not possible as he was not a party member. “Getting a party symbol during an election does not mean one is a party member,” he said. When asked about the woman party leader calling the complaint against Mr Mukesh “less serious”, he said: “If she said that, ask her. The party will talk about party matters.”
Reacting to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s remark that John Brittas, MP, was acting as a bridge between the Union and state governments on the PM-SHRI scheme, Mr Govindan asked, “what is wrong with building a bridge with the Centre? We have built some and we will build more.” He asserted that in a federal system, centre-state cooperation was essential, but said, “The Left will never allow the agenda of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to be smuggled in. The party is absolutely clear about that.”
On the Sabarimala gold theft probe, Mr. Govindan said the investigation was progressing well. “There is no complaint regarding the investigation. Appropriate action will be taken after the investigation is completed. We will not protect anyone,” he said in response to questions about the delay in proceedings against former Travancore Devaswa board president and CPI(M) leader A. Padmakumar, who was arrested in connection with the case.
Commenting on BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s announcement that he would contest against Nemom in the next assembly elections, Mr. Govindan said, “If he contests in Nemom, he will be defeated very badly.” He added that the upcoming local body elections were a “prelude to the parliamentary polls” and reaffirmed that “the Left is heading for a third consecutive term in Kerala”.
