The “unqualified praise” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu was “shameful and morally cruel”, Congress said on Thursday (October 9, 2025), while he targeted Modi for his “silence” about the future of the independent and Soverian state of Palestics.
Criticism followed the statement of the Prime Minister, which welcomed the agreement on the first phase of the Peace Plan of Western Asia of the United States President Donald Trump, under which Israel and Hamas agreed to suspend the struggle in Gaza. Mr. Modi described the agreement as the reflection of the “strong leadership” of Mr. Netanyahu and expressed the hope that he would bring “rest” people in Gaza and prepare a way for permanent peace.
The General Secretary of the Congress (Communications) Jairam Ramesh attacked Mr. Modi for not mentioning the continuing expansion of Israeli settlements on the occupied West Bank or the devastating toll war of Gaza.
“It is shocking, shameful and morally cruel that the Prime Minister has expanded unqualified praise to Netanyahu – who has released genocide in Gaza over the past 20 months,” Ramesh said in post X.
‘Total Silence’
“Mr. Modi also maintained the complete silence of the future of the independent, sovereign state of Palestine, which India recognized in November 1988, now recognizes more than 150 countries,” he added.
Congress constantly criticized the attitude of the Narendra Modi government in Gaza. Previously, he accused the Prime Minister of “moral cowardice” and “overall betrayal” of India by refusing to condemn “terrible atrocities” in the region and the Congress Committee (CWC) in September expressed “deep need” in an Indian muted response to the crisis.
CWC said India, once a “lighthouse of moral conscience” and the leader of the post -colonial world, has now been reduced to a “silent viewer”. “India has always been a lighthouse of the moral conscience and the champion of the post -colonial world, now it has now been shamefully reduced to a silent viewer. Our foreign policy has now gained a moral painter,” CWC resolution said.
