
The opposition Congress in Rajasthan on Saturday (May 3, 2025) demanded disqualification of the party Bharatiya Janata (BJP) MLA Kanwar Lal Meen after the command of Rajasthan in the 20 -year case. Mr. Meena, elected from Anta Baran District’s Anta, was sentenced to a three -year strict imprisonment.
The case concerned the incident in February 2005, when Mr. Meena arrived with seven collaborators on the site of the protest of the villagers in the Jhalawar district, who demanded a representative Sarpanch Repoll, threatened the Sub-Divisional Judge (SDM) by the revolver. He allegedly pointed the revolver on the head of the SDM and asked him to announce in two minutes Repoll or be killed.
Mr. Meena, who at that time was not elected to the Assembly in Rajasthan, who had already had 15 criminal cases against him. He damaged the recording equipment of government officials to remove the traces of his action and leave the scene. He was arrested three years after the incident and released on bail on the same day.
Although Mr. Meena was originally exempt from a court court, he later condemned him in Aclera in December 2020 after he found out that he was guilty of defending government work, intimidating government officials and vandalizing property. He was sentenced to imprisonment for three years and two years, respectively, for various fees to be met in parallel.
Double MLA, Mr. Meena first won the elections from Jhalawar’s Manohar Thana in 2013 and later from Anta in 2023. He rejected his revision petition, which questioned the judgment of the court, the only judge of the Bench of the Supreme Court decided on Friday that Mr. Meen was in accordance with the facts and law.
The High Court ordered Mr. Meena to give up immediately before the court court if she had issued an inability to him, and the MLA would be punished.
Pradesh Congress Committee President Govind Singh Dotasra and the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly Tika Ram Jully Demanded that Mr. Meena be Disqualified Forthwith in Accordance with the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. SECTION 8 (3) of the Act provides for the disqualification of a lawmaker following conviction for an Offnce with and two-year Sentnce or more.
Mr. Jully said that the spokesman of the Vasudev Devnani Assembly should immediately approve the order of cancellation of Mr. Meena’s membership in the house, taking into account that the High Court observes his sentence. The delegation of congress leaders will soon fulfill the speaker and lays demand in front of him.
The alleged attack of the crowd led by Mr. Meena, when the MLA, was involved in activists who participated in “Jawabdehi Yatra” (March for responsibility) in the Aclera district of Jhalawar January 16, 2016, also became headline. Videos showed Mr. Meen with Lathi, who was charging towards activists, and bila them and chased. The incident attracted attention to the movement to emphasize uncontrollable corruption in public life and determine responsibility.
