The Uttar Pradesh Congress on Saturday (February 7, 2026) questioned Bharatiya Janata Party state unit chief Pankaj Chaudhary, who held dual duties as Union minister of state and UP BJP president, accusing the ruling party of double standards. She claimed that while the BJP claims to uphold high moral standards with the idea of ’one person, one post’ as its key principle, this idea is not followed in Uttar Pradesh.
“Mr. Chaudhary is both BJP state president and (state) Union minister), BJP talks about ‘one person, one post’ principle and claims to strictly follow it. Even Nitin Nabin resigned from Bihar state cabinet as a minister when he was appointed as BJP national president, but why UP BJP chief holds both posts, these ideas have nothing to do with one person, one post.” it is controlled from Delhi by one person and uses these tactics as per the demands,” said Shahnawaz Alam, national secretary of the Congress, without elaborating.
Even after the presentation of the Union Budget, Mr. Chaudhary should resign if the ruling party really follows such a principle, he said.
State Union Finance Minister and seven-time Lok Sabha MP from Maharajganj Pankaj Chaudhary was appointed as the new president of the BJP Uttar Pradesh unit in December last year, his appointment being formally announced in Lucknow. There are very few instances of leaders in the BJP having dual responsibilities in the recent past, one exception being former BJP national chief Jagat Prakash Nadda. OBC Morcha chief Narendra Kashyap holds a ministerial post in UP.
