Congress PAC discusses strategy for local body elections in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh Congress Political Affairs Committee (PAC) met at the Andhra Ratna Bhavan in Vijayawada on Saturday to discuss measures to strengthen the party in the state and prepare for the upcoming local body elections.

AICC In-charge of Andhra Pradesh Affairs PV Mohan attended the meeting while APCC President YS Sharmila Reddy participated through Zoom call.

Ms. Sharmila urged the party leaders and workers to work with renewed vigor to strengthen the Congress and improve its performance in the local body elections. She said there is a need to identify strong candidates and ensure that every party worker takes local body elections as a responsibility.

Recalling that former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy wanted to see Rahul Gandhi as Prime Minister, she urged Congress workers to work towards fulfilling his aspirations and described Congress as a secular party committed to equality.

Alleging that both the ruling alliance parties and the YSR Congress were “followers of Prime Minister Narendra Modi”, Ms Sharmila alleged that people were unhappy with both the TDP and the YSRCP. She said the Congress should emerge as an alternative in the state. She emphasized the need to end factional politics in the party and focus on strengthening the organization.

The APCC chief welcomed Mr. Mohan’s appointment as state party affairs in-charge and expressed confidence that his experience and seniority would help strengthen the organization in Andhra Pradesh. She also urged him to allow the state unit full support from the AICC.

The PAC discussed the party’s organizational preparedness and electoral strategy for the local body elections with an emphasis on candidate selection, grassroots mobilization and strengthening coordination between party leaders and workers.
