Following media reports that he has been nominated for the Veer Savarkar International Impact Award-2025, senior Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday (December 10, 2025) said that in the absence of clarification on the nature of the award and the awarding organization, the question of his acceptance did not arise.
The award was given by the NGO High Range Rural Development Society.
Through his handle X, he said, “I came to know from media reports that I have been named as the recipient of the ‘Veer Savarkar’ award which will be presented in Delhi today. I came to know about this announcement only yesterday in Kerala where I went to vote in the local body elections.”

“There in Thiruvananthapuram, in response to media queries, I clarified that I was neither aware of nor had I accepted such an award and it was irresponsible of the organizers to announce my name without agreeing to receive it,” he said.
He added, “Despite some media in Delhi today continuing to ask the same question. Hence, I am issuing this statement to clarify the matter unequivocally. In the absence of clarification about the nature of the award, the awarding organization or any other details related to it, the question of whether I will attend the event today or receive the award does not arise.”
