Congress MLA Ramya Haridas was hospitalized following a night-long disturbance at a party colleague’s house

Congress legislator representing Chirayankeezhu constituency in Thiruvananthapuram district, Ramya Haridas, was hospitalized late on Friday (September 4, 2026) following an altercation at a party worker’s house.
According to the Chirayankeezhu police, the mishap occurred at the house of a local Congress worker. They said Ms. Haridas and her private secretary Palayam Pradeep visited the party worker’s house around 11 p.m.
Police said they sat in the living room with the worker to settle a dispute that broke out between Mr. Pradeep and Congress workers during a project implementation meeting in the local block panchayat.
Local Congress workers protested against Mr. Pradeep giving instructions to the local body’s construction contractors and questioned his authority.
Police said that an alleged attempt by Ms. Haridas and Mr. Pradeep to reconcile appeared to have failed, leading to violence in the party workers’ living room. Videos of Ms. Haridas struggling with a Congress worker and demanding that he stop holding her hand have gone viral on social media. The video also showed overturned chairs and a congressman’s living room in ruins.
According to the police, Sub-Inspector N. Ansar and a team of officers were at the hospital in the taluk to record the legislator’s statement. Police said Ms Haridas accused her party compatriot of assault.
Meanwhile, a district panchayat member took to social media and accused Ms. Haridas and Mr. Pradeep of breaking into the house of a local Congress worker late at night and assaulting him. He demanded that the police charge Ms Haridas and her aide with trespassing with criminal intent, destruction of property and assault.
Police said they will record the statements of both parties and register an FIR. The official said the police will also inform the Speaker’s office about the incident.
