Congress leaders discuss the party’s strategy for the upcoming parliamentary session

Top Congress leaders met here on Thursday (July 16, 2026) to discuss the party’s strategy during the monsoon session of Parliament, which begins on July 20.

Congress leaders, including party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and other senior officials, discussed the key issues to be discussed in the session.

The meeting was held at the 10, Janpath residence of Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) President Sonia Gandhi.

The monsoon session of Parliament begins on July 20 and is likely to continue till August 13.

Other Congress leaders who attended the key strategy meeting included AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal, Congress Chief Whip in Rajya Sabha Jairam Ramesh, P Chidambaram, K Suresh, Naseer Hussain, Manickam Tagore, Kumari Selja, Tariq Anwar, Shashi Tharoor and Manish Tewari, among others.

The INDIA opposition bloc will also hold a strategy meeting on Monday (July 20) ahead of the session to develop its joint strategy.

The government will meet with leaders of various parties on Sunday (July 19) to discuss the various issues that will be discussed at the meeting.

The government is likely to introduce major legislation, including a constitutional amendment bill to introduce delimitation and increase the number of seats in the Lok Sabha, apart from one to remove the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers and Union Ministers after imprisonment.

The opposition is also gearing up to take on the government on crucial issues, including the NEET paper leak case and misappropriation of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya, besides raising issues of rising oil prices and the Indo-US trade deal.
