Congress leaders performed a symbolic milk cleansing of the Telangana Martyrs Memorial on Mondatu at Gun Park, alleging that it was desecrated earlier in the day by the visit of BRS legislators.
Earlier in the morning, several BRS MLAs and MLCs led by KT Rama Rao staged a protest at the Martyrs Memorial after paying tributes to the martyrs of Telangana. BRS lawmakers called for legislative support for six guarantees.
However, the protest drew objections from Congress officials who accused the BRS of trying to politicize the memorial.
Congress leader and State Fisheries Corporation chairman Mettu Sai Kumar, who spoke at the site, strongly criticized the presence of BRS leaders at the memorial. He alleged that their visit had ‘defiled’ the sanctity of the memorial dedicated to the martyrs of Telangana.
Later, Mr. Sai Kumar and other Congress workers poured milk on the stupa as a symbolic gesture to cleanse it.
