Former Union minister and senior Congress leader JD Seelam has alleged that the NDA government is systematically targeting Dalit Christians in the country by threatening to remove the reservation facility provided by the Constitution of India for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
Vizianagaram District President RS John will attend the Dalit Christian conclave organized by the South Indian Baptist Association as the chief guest on Tuesday. Mr. Seelam said that citizens can choose their religion as per the provisions of the Indian Constitution and this should not be a pretext to remove the reservation facility for Dalit families.
Liberation Congress Party founder and former IAS officer G. Vijay Kumar, Ambedkar India Mission founder and IPS officer PV Suneel Kumar asked all Dalit Christians to fight together to protect their reservation facility. Mr. John said religious freedom was a fundamental right of the people and asked the government to issue legislation to protect the rights of Dalit Christians.
