The arrest was caused by a strong reaction from the congress. The chairman of the District Congress Martin George claimed that part of the police, especially in Kannura, acts as “servants of the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan”. He condemned the arrest as a retaliatory step for Saneesh’s initiative in installing the statue of Gandhi on his private land.
“While those who vandalized the statue of Gandhi in Malapattam and attacked the leader of the Irshad Youth Congress, they were released on the station, serious accusations were hit against Saneesh for tearing Flex banner,” George said.
He also asked why no arrests were taken in cases concerning CPI staff (m) accused of entering the Congress Office in PANOOR, the burning flag of the party on the road and attacking the Congress staff.
“Congress will not be silent if the police continue this politically biased approach,” he warned, adding that the party would take legal action against what he called the unfair police behavior.
