The Congress has no duty to protect Rahul Mamkootathila, argued former Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala. .
During an interaction with media persons in Thrissur on Wednesday, he said that the party leadership will meet and decide on the next course of action once the court delivers its verdict on Mr. Mamkootathil’s anticipatory bail plea.
Mr. Chennithala said that the complaint of abuse received by the Congress was immediately forwarded by the KPCC president to the DGP and that the party followed all due procedures in the case.
“On the issue of Rahul Mamkootathil, it is the Congress that has taken the strongest steps in the political sphere of Kerala,” he told reporters. “My stand on this issue has been clear from the beginning and people and media in Kerala are well aware of it.
He added that though the case is about Rahul Mamkootathil’s personal conduct, it has ramifications for the party, which called for swift action. Mr. Chennithala criticized the CPI(M) and alleged that the party promoted individuals accused in similar cases and handled such matters through an internal “party court” rather than through proper legal channels.
