A five-member committee comprising All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Tamil Nadu and Pudhucherry Girish Chodankar, party leaders Suraj Hegde and Nivedith Alva, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai and Congress Legislature Party leader S. Rajeshkumar has reportedly been formed to conduct talks on sharing the 206 assembly seats with the DMK.
Congress sources said an official communication would soon be sent to DMK president and Chief Minister MK Stalin.
A TNCC leader said the message appears to have been sent after the DMK reportedly urged the AICC leadership to end speculation about the continuation of the INDIA bloc in Tamil Nadu. “With the elections just a few months away, the DMK has expressed its concern over the fact that speculation that the Congress might go with the TVK was having a destabilizing effect. Hence, it was deemed necessary to consolidate the alliance,” said a senior leader.
Sources in the TNCC said all matters related to the alliance — more seats and also the need for the Congress to be part of the coalition government — will be discussed and resolved amicably.
