The Congress on Thursday (Oct 30, 2025) launched a scathing attack on the BJP over the alleged suicide of a government woman doctor in Maharashtra’s Satara district, saying law and order in the state had “collapsed”. The party demanded a judicial inquiry and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the incident.
Mumbai Congress president Varsha Gaikwad said the incident exposed the “BJP-RSS mentality towards the deprived and women” and demanded justice for the 28-year-old doctor who was found dead in a hotel in Phaltan on 23 October.
In a note written on her palm, the doctor accused police sub-inspector Gopal Badan of repeated rape and software engineer Prashant Bankar of mental harassment.
“What has happened shows that law and order in Maharashtra has broken down,” said Ms Gaikwad, accompanied by State Congress general secretary Atul Londhe Patil.
She alleged that the doctor was “fighting political pressure” from former BJP MP Ranjit Naik Nimbalkar and others. “How could (Chief Minister) Devendra Fadnavis give a clean chit to the accused without any investigation? Who is she trying to protect,” he asked.
Ms Gaikwad said the Congress wanted the “truth to come out in this case”. “An SIT and a judicial inquiry should be formed to probe the case. The accused named in the suicide note should be arrested immediately. The Women Doctors Safety Act should be enacted,” she said.
Mr Londhe said Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi spoke to the victim’s family and assured them of justice.
