The Congress on Saturday (September 12, 2026) declared victory for the NSUI in the student union elections held at Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal Central University, Pauri, saying that the people of Uttarakhand are fed up with the BJP’s “anti-people” politics and “destruction”.
Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, in a post on X, said the party’s student wing had handed ABVP a complete defeat. “It is evident that Uttarakhand is fed up with their anti-people policies that have led to unprecedented looting and destruction in the state.

“This is also a message from the Indian youth and students who have been waiting for an opportunity to punish the BJP for the horrific violence that took place during the Jantar Mantar protests,” he said in the post.
Mr. Venugopal claimed that the BJP would face a similar fate in the upcoming Delhi University Students’ Union elections, where the NSUI panel would emerge victorious with huge margins.
“Come 2027, people will also drive the BJP out of power in Uttarakhand and bring in a Congress regime that really cares about the youth, the marginalized and the underprivileged,” Venugopal said.
