Congress appoints Siddaramaiah as member of Congress Working Committee

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge along with former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and newly elected Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader DK Shivakumar in Delhi.

Outgoing Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was on Tuesday (June 2, 2026) appointed as a member of the Congress Working Committee.

The party’s announcement came a day before Chief Minister-designate DK Shivakumar’s swearing-in ceremony and days after Siddaramaiah’s resignation.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed Siddaramaiah as a member of the Congress Working Committee with immediate effect, a party statement said.

The Congress top brass held talks with Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar on Tuesday (June 2, 2026) to finalize the new cabinet in the state.

Along with Mr. Kharg, former party chief Rahul Gandhi will also be present for the swearing-in.

Congress chief ministers from Kerala, Himachal Pradesh and Telangana will also attend the swearing-in ceremony along with the chief ministers of Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand. Some other senior opposition figures are also likely to attend the event.
