Former MLA Subhash Guttedar said there were large-scale irregularities in the development works sanctioned by various government departments in Aland taluk.
He said crores of rupees were embezzled through poor execution of road works.
At a press conference in Kalaburagi on Friday, Mr Guttedar accused Alanda MLA BR Patil, who is also the vice-chairman of the State Policy and Planning Commission, and RK Patil, who is the president of the Kalaburagi-Bidar-Yadgir Milk Producers Cooperative Societies Union, of misleading the public.
He said that the two leaders are claiming that their organization Samata Loka Shikshana Samiti is starting construction of several villages connecting roads with the help of government funds and presenting them as initiatives taken by their institution.
Exhibiting photographs of such road works, Mr Guttedar said the Chief Minister had sanctioned ₹8.66 crore for 12 works in Aland constituency through Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL).
The works include roads between 1 km and 3.5 km in length. However, instead of building proper roads, only murum soil was laid, Mr. Guttedar said.
“For works sanctioned with funds ranging from ₹80 crore to ₹1.3 crore, only about ₹5 to 6 crore has been spent,” he said.
Referring to the model project, Shirpur said that despite sanctioning crores of rupees, no work has been started so far.
“Funds are being misused on the pretext of filling the dams with water. But not a single drop of water has reached a single tank yet,” he said.
Mr Guttedar urged the authorities concerned to take suo motu cognizance of the matter and initiate action against MLA BR Patil and Mr RK Patil.
