Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay accused the Congress government of lacking courage to arrest the masterminds of phone tapping despite “concrete evidence” proving that phone tapping was going on during the previous BRS government led by K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR).
Speaking to reporters in Karimnagar on Friday, he described the ongoing investigation into the wiretapping case by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) as “unending” and “inconclusive”. Although SIT officers are competent and honest, they are denied operational freedom, he said.
He alleged that some influential persons in the Congress dispensation were trying to buy time to facilitate a deal between Delhi and the farm.
Mr. Sanay said, “It has been six months since I was summoned by the SIT. The police themselves informed me that my phone was tapped by putting my number on the Maoist list and showed me the evidence. Moreover, even Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy publicly stated that his phones were also tapped. But no action has been taken so far.”
He said the chief minister lacked the courage to take action against the irregularities and excesses of the previous BRS rulers.
If the Congress government admits that it is incompetent, inefficient and spineless in investigating and taking action against corrupt leaders and masterminds of phone tapping in the previous clearance and writes to the Center asking for a CBI probe, then the central government will be ready to take appropriate action, he said in response to a question.
