Conflicts can be resolved through dialogue, diplomacy: President Murmu at a meeting with Iran’s Pezeshkian

President Droupadi Murmu met her Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday (September 12, 2026), during which she reiterated India’s commitment to lasting peace in the region and called for conflict resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.
President Murmu’s remarks came amid escalating tensions in West Asia over fresh US airstrikes on Iranian targets, as well as Washington’s attempts to inflict economic strain on Tehran through crippling sanctions.
Ms. Murmu welcomed President Pezeshkian on his first visit to India and expressed appreciation for the support provided by Iran during India’s BRICS chairmanship.
Long-standing friendships
The two leaders discussed the long-standing friendships between Iran and India, including their strong cultural and people-to-people ties, a statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan said.
Ms. Murmu reiterated India’s commitment to lasting peace in the region and called for conflict resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.
The conflict in West Asia began at the end of February this year.
Mr Pezeshkian, who is in New Delhi to attend the BRICS summit, called on President Murma at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
