Gigu officials said on Tuesday that a possible shortage of LPG and CNG supplies in some parts of the country could seriously affect the platform’s workers, especially those involved in app-based transportation and delivery services.
Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union (TGPWU) and Indian Federation of App-Based Transport Workers (IFAT) said the ongoing international conflict and disruption in fuel logistics could affect LPG and CNG supplies in the next one to two days.
According to the union, thousands of drivers run LPG and CNG vehicles while working on app-based platforms like Ola, Uber and Rapido. These workers rely on 24/7 access to affordable fuel to sustain their daily livelihood. Any disruption to supply could lead to long queues at gas stations, fewer journeys and an immediate loss of income for drivers already struggling with rising operating costs.
The TGPWU and IFAT have urged both the central and state governments to closely monitor the situation and ensure uninterrupted supply of LPG and CNG in urban centres. They also appealed to aggregator companies to support workers through transparent communication and avoid imposing penalties for service disruptions beyond their control.
Shaik Salauddin, head of the union, said, “Restaurant aggregators could face problems if hotels, restaurants and home kitchens are hit by blackouts due to shortage of LPG, which could affect order volumes and earnings.
