Kimshealth, Thiruvananthapuram, has performed a comprehensive surgery to a native of Tamil Nadu, whose oxygen levels fell dangerously due to blood clots in the pulmonary arteries.
A 49 -year -old patient, who underwent deep venous thrombosis, arrived in Kimshealth with severe dyspnoea and swelling in his leg.
Although the coronary angiogram showed normal blood vessels, its oxygen level should ideally be between 95%and 100%to a life-threatening minimum of 80%. The following CT of the pulmonary angiography revealed blood clots in the arteries of the lungs.
The doctors decided to continue with the pulmonary thromboendarterectomy to remove the clots. With the help of a heart of the lungs, the patient’s body temperature was reduced to 18 degrees Celsius to control blood flow and prepare for surgery.
Blood clots in both left and right pulmonary arteries have been successfully removed. The operation lasted approximately eight hours, during which blood flow was temporarily stopped and restarted every 30 minutes.
