Complaints of frequent and prolonged power outages are pouring in from across Karnataka this monsoon season.

Recently, Chief Minister DK Shivakumar warned that the state could face power and drinking water shortages due to worsening drought conditions.

In Bengaluru, people who don’t live in apartments or gated communities are feeling the heat. Arun Kumar, a resident of Indiranagar, said, “Two days ago, there was a power cut in our locality for almost five hours in the evening. Such prolonged power cuts in the evening make it difficult for everyone.”

Vidya, a resident of Banashankari, said, “For the past few days, power outages have been rampant in our locality. I had to approach my neighbor who has UPS backup to charge my mobile.”

Many residents also complained that they could not call the Bescom helpline and access information.

Residents of Kolar, Tumakuru, Mysuru, Belagavi, Hubballi, Dharwad, Haveri and Kalaburagi also reported facing frequent power cuts. Sampath K., a resident of Chikkamagaluru, said, “The power cut lasted for over 10 hours last week. People in Kodagu, Hassan and Mandya also complained of similar situations.”
