Compensation sought for land acquired for data center project

Farmers affected by land acquisition for the proposed data center project at Tarluvada village in Anandapuram mandal staged a protest at the Visakhapatnam Collectorate on Monday demanding compensation and rehabilitation benefits promised by the state government.

The protestors alleged that compensation and rehabilitation measures were not extended to all eligible beneficiaries even as the project work progressed at the site. They submitted a representation to the district officials seeking immediate intervention.

According to the affected farmers, about 266 acres have been acquired for the project, affecting 520 farmers. They alleged that compensation claims related to 52 allotted land holders remained unresolved and that discrepancies in revenue statements and records resulted in several beneficiaries being left out of the compensation process.

The farmers claimed that the government had ensured compensation and rehabilitation within 15 days of the foundation stone laying ceremony, but the promise was not fulfilled. They also claimed that access roads to agricultural fields were affected by project-related activities.

CPI(M) district secretariat member R. Gangarao said those who will lose land are yet to be compensated as per the assurances given at the time of acquisition. He urged the authorities to correct the errors in the survey records and ensure that all eligible beneficiaries are compensated without delay.

The protesters demanded that no further construction activity should be started until compensation and rehabilitation issues were resolved.
