
A cabinet meeting held here on Friday decided to provide adequate compensation to building owners and businessmen who lost their shops and businesses in the Wayanad landslides in 2024. Shops that were destroyed in the disaster will be given a compensation of ₹7,000, irrespective of the type or structure of the shops. If the shop owner has lost more than one shop, a compensation of Rs 2.5 lakh will be given for each additional shop.
Entrepreneurs who have suffered huge losses in the landslide will be given 50% of the loss incurred by each entrepreneur or a maximum amount of ₹ 20 lakh in the manufacturing sector, ₹ 10 lakh in the service sector and ₹ 7 lakh in the commercial sector to restart the businesses. The funds required to provide the compensation will be provided to the Wayanad District Collector from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. The meeting also decided to assign Wayanad Collector to distribute the amount.
