An Indian student in the US shared frustration from the “basic human politeness” of fellow citizens. He notices how badly many Indians can handle greetings compared to others, especially Pakistani.
A student, also a part -time worker, greets people daily. Americans and Pakistani react smiles, eye contact or little conversation.
“Americans, Pakistani, others respond with a smile, eye contact, sometimes a friendly conversation. It’s normal, human and respectful,” the student wrote in Reddit.

However, many Indians often ignore the greeting. They find a lack of basic courtesy.
“No smile, no eye contact, nor decency” Hi. “They’re just going around as if I didn’t exist, and honestly, it’s embarrassing,” Reddit wrote.
“I saw Pakistani in the same situation, smiling, saying hello, even joking. Meanwhile, too many Indians act rigid, cold and embarrassingly, as if the basic courtesy is a burden,” the user added.

The student admitted that not all Indians act like this, but too much. He believes that it is more difficult for the community to combine into American culture.
They wonder why many contradict adaptation when a simple “hello” requires “literally zero effort”.
“This is not an India where you can just keep your head down and ignore everyone. A little greeting is not just” American culture ” – it’s a basic human politeness,” the user wrote.
The student assumes that the Indians do not want to “fit”. And he considers it “disgusting”.
And there is a debate
Soon the fellow citizens began to express themselves. Many of their opinions were repeated by Op.
“In India, if you hold the door for colleagues, they will handle you as if you were a door,” one user wrote.
“In India, if you smile at foreigners, they will think you are going to sell insurance,” wrote another user.
“I am a (resident) doctor of Indian origin. Indian male patients give me much more problems and arguments than Pakistanic male patients. It is different in women,” he came from another.

“I am Pakistani … If I am dressed” less conservative “and show tattoos, etc., Pakistani older do not smile, Indian still do it,” wrote a Pakistani user.
One of them shared the experience of heat from older Indians who moved abroad decades ago, especially the owners and teachers of shops.
“Younger recently migrated Indians, working on management, IT, finance – not so much. And this is not only in the US, but also in the EU and APAC,” the user added.
Another user disagreed: “Complete for me.
“A large part of India’s immigrants are stupid, so they don’t have to be so good, socially,” came from another.
One Pakistani user remarked: “Pakistani and Indians are going out abroad in the US/Great Britain. When I was a bachelor’s bachelor abroad, most of my close friends came from India.”
