Metro activists and daily commuting showed a protest in front of the BR Ambedkar station, on Monday, Vishana Judge Metro Station, against the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to deposit the use of public toilets at 12 metro stations.
Demonstrators demanded that BMRCL return its decision to choose 2 ₹ for urinals and 5 GBP for toilets. These toilets, located outside the metro stations, were handed over to the non -profit organization Sulabh International, known for managing sanitary facilities.
T. Narasimha Murtha, a regular commuting and activist of the metro, said: “We protest for protesters against an urgent matter that affects the daily metro users. When the metro first launched operations, even basic equipment such as toilets and drinking water.
Mr. Murty remembered that 1 May 2015, during the Nagasandra inauguration on the green line, activists organized a protest requiring these basic services. “We were arrested and a criminal case was filed against us. The case is still waiting. We also filed a complaint against BMRCL in front of Lokayukta,” he said.
He added that after a recent 71% hike in the area of the tariff, this new fee adds another financial burden for commuting toilet. “We are asking BMRCL to withdraw this fee in the interest of public well -being,” Mr. Murty said.
In response to protest, senior BMRCL official explained that passengers can use toilets located inside the metro area that come along the gates without any cost. “The fees only apply to toilets located outside the metro stations, to which the general public and not just metro users are also accessible,” the clerk added.
