INDIA AT THE 2026 COMMONWEALTH GAMES India enjoyed its most successful day yet at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Sunday, picking up one gold and two silver medals to take its tally to four, as the boxers continued their impressive run and the men’s swimming relay team reached another Commonwealth final.Olympic silver medalist Mirabai Chanu headlined India’s performances on Day 4 by winning a third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal, while Rishikanta Singh and Raja Muthupandi added silver medals in weightlifting. Elsewhere, Jadumani Singh booked his place in the boxing quarter-finals with a commanding victory over Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman, Preeti Pawar advanced with a break and the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay qualified to compete in the final.

Mirabai Chanu makes history with third Commonwealth Games gold in a row
Saikhom Mirabai Chanu once again underlined her status as one of India’s greatest weightlifters by winning the women’s 48kg gold medal.The Tokyo Olympic silver medalist overcame a failed opening attempt before producing another dominant performance as he finished with a combined lift of 190kg. She set a new Commonwealth Games record of 85kg in the clean and jerk before lifting 105kg in the clean and jerk to comfortably secure the title.The victory completed a remarkable hat-trick of Commonwealth Games gold medals, following her triumphs in Gold Coast in 2018 and Birmingham in 2022. It also took her total Commonwealth Games medal tally to four.
Rishikanta Singh won silver after equaling the Games record
Rishikanta Singh Chanambam put in an outstanding performance to secure silver in the men’s 60kg event.The 28-year-old lifter from Manipur successfully cleared 116kg, 119kg and 121kg in the clean and jerk, equaling the Commonwealth Games record with his best effort.He then cleared 143kg with a clean move but narrowly missed attempts at 148kg and 151kg to finish with a total lift of 264kg.Malaysia’s Muhammad Anik bin Kasdan won gold with a Games record total of 273kg, while Kenya’s Joshua Amunga Buoya won bronze after lifting 260kg.
Raja Muthupandi completes India’s weightlifting medal
Raja Muthupandi ensured India ended the day with three medals in weightlifting by claiming silver in the men’s 65kg category.The Tamil Nadu lifter recorded 126kg in the snatch, then added 160kg in the clean and jerk to finish with a total of 286kg.Malaysia’s Muhamad Aznil Bin Bidin won gold after setting a Commonwealth Games record total of 299kg, while Papua New Guinea’s Morea Baru secured bronze with 282kg.The silver capped a remarkable comeback for Muthupandi, who returned to the Commonwealth Games podium eight years after finishing sixth on his Gold Coast debut in 2018 following an injury spell that also saw him miss Birmingham 2022.
The Boxers continue their strong campaign
India enjoyed another productive day in the boxing ring.Jadumani Singh Mandengbam defeated Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman by a 5-0 unanimous decision in the men’s 55kg round of 16 to book a place in the quarterfinals.After a tightly fought opening round, the Manipur boxer gradually took control of the bout and scored a knockdown in the second round before sealing victory on all five judges. He will next face England’s Ellis Trowbridge for a place in the medal rounds.In the women’s 54kg round of 16, Preeti Pawar produced a dominant performance to beat Malawi’s Deborah Mtenje in a referee stoppage contest (RSC) to comfortably advance to the quarter-finals.India also suffered one setback in boxing as Aditya Pratap Yadav narrowly lost to Uganda’s Nuhu Batte in the men’s 65kg round of 16, 3-2.
The relay team advances to the swimming finals
India’s men’s 4x200m freestyle relay quartet of Srihari Nataraj, Aryan Nehra, Aneesh Gowda and Dhakshan Shashikumar successfully qualified for the final after finishing third in the HeatThe Indian team clocked 7:39.48 to finish behind Australia and England while holding off Jersey to secure promotion. They advanced as the sixth fastest team overall from the combined runs.Later in the evening, the same quartet returned to medal contention, finishing sixth in the Commonwealth Games final.
Mixed luck in bowls and gymnastics
India endured a tough day in the bowls on the turf.Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh first lost 3-0 to Namibia in the women’s pair tiebreak before suffering another defeat against England, ending their campaign in the tournament.In the men’s singles, Putul Sonowal lost his section match against Malta’s Shaun James Parnis.Artistic gymnast Tapan Mohanty finished 15th in the men’s all-around final.The Indian women’s 3×3 wheelchair basketball team also suffered a defeat as they lost 21-4 to Scotland in Group B.Weight-lifting
