The Bengalur Bengalur Committee, formerly known as the Bengaluru Restructuring Committee, is preparing to present three detailed proposals for the state government about the creation of more municipal corporations under the newly created Greater Bengaluro Authority (GBA).
This step is governed by the official announcement of the Public Affairs Act (GBG) Greater Bengalur, 2024. The Committee, Chaird by the BS Patil, organized its first formal meeting since the announcement of the law and began to work on restructuring plans.
The state government formally ordered the committee to submit its recommendations on the creation of corporations, the definition of borders and related structures of the administration. The panel is expected to reappear at the end of this week to continue its negotiations and improve its proposals.
The GBG law was recently informed after receiving the consent of the Governor of Karnataka Thawarchand Gehlot. According to the announcement, the GBA will modify the jurisdiction of 709 square kilometers, which corresponds to the existing juridization of Bruhat Bengalur Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Despite the creation of the GBA, however, the BBMP will continue to operate under the BBMP 2020 until the civic body is officially restructured to several smaller corporations.
Sources familiar with ongoing discussions revealed that the committee is considering three management models: BBMP division into three, four or five corporations. These options are based on the current distribution of the population throughout the city. Although the higher bureaucrats had previously prepared a proposal for a model of three -corporation, the presence of several inaccuracies has forced the state government to look for more accurate and detailed recommendations of the committee.
The panel has a number of demographic and urban data accumulated over the years of city administration research. This data will form the basis for their suggestions. The members of the Committee stressed that their work would be independent, led only by empirical evidence and the principles of urban planning and without political or bureaucratic influence. In addition, the Committee will take into account the inevitable growth of the city and future expansion as the main part of its planning and recommendations.
