Colombian President Gustavo Petro has committed that he does not leave any stone to identify those by attempting to assassinate the opposition senator and the potential presidential candidate of MiGuel Uribe. The 39 -year -old conservative legislator was shot on Saturday during the campaign in Bogota and remains in critical condition.
“No source should be spared – not a single peso or a single moment of energy – to find a master … whether in Colombia or abroad,” Petro said at a television address. He condemned the attack and called on an independent investigation to identify “intellectual authors” for shooting.

The authorities confirmed that the minor under 15 was on the scene bearing a 9mm Glock pistol. Petro said that the involvement of the child indicated the growing use of minors by organized crime.
“There is nothing but a hypothesis yet,” the president said, adding that failure in security protocols would also be reviewed.
Senator undergo an emergency surgery
Uribe was hurried to Santa Fe de Bogota Foundation Hospital after being shot in the head of a public park in the neighborhood of Fontibon. The hospital said he had undergone neurosurgical and vascular procedures.
His wife, Maria Claudia Tarazon, shared an emotional message on her social media account: “Miguel is fighting for her life right now. Ask God to lead the hands of the doctors who treat him.”
The General Prosecutor Luz Adriana Camargo later confirmed that Uribe remained in a “stable but critical” state.
Democratic Center: “He was shot from behind”
The Uribe’s Party, the right -wing democratic center, condemned the attack and described it as “serious”. The party’s statement stated that it was “shot from behind armed objects”. No further details of the nature of the attack have been provided.
Videos circulating on social media seemed to show that Uribe bleeding out of the head as people rushed to help him.
Public vigil and prayers outside the hospital
Uribe supporters gathered outside the hospital, held vigiles at candles, and prayed for his recovery. Many waved Colombian flags and chanted news of solidarity.

American Foreign Minister Marco Rubio issued a strong conviction of the assassination attempt. “The United States at the strongest possible terms condemns an attempt to assassinate the Senator Uribe,” said Rubio, accusing “inflammatory rhetoric” Petro for contributing to the climate of political violence.
The government offers a reward for information
The Colombian government offered a reward for approximately $ 730,000 for any information leading to the perpetrators of the attack.
