College students attacked in Thonnakkal, Kerala

A college student was seriously injured after he was attacked by a two-member gang at Thonnakkal bus stand here on Friday.

The Attingal police identified the student as Vignesh, a BCom student at Sri Sathya Sai Arts and Science College. The incident took place in front of the dormitory where the student was allegedly waiting for the bus after classes.

According to the police, two men arrived on a motorcycle and parked it near the bus stop. A verbal exchange reportedly ensued, after which one of the assailants allegedly pulled out a sharp weapon and struck Mr Vignesh on the head.

Mr. Vignesh sustained serious head injuries and was initially rushed to a nearby hospital by other students and local residents. He was later shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital for specialized treatment.

Police have begun examining CCTV footage from the area. The motive for the attack is not yet known.
