Collector assesses monsoon preparedness in Villupuram
Collector Sheik Abdul Rahman presided over a meeting here on Tuesday to review the North East Monsoon preparedness in the Collectorate.
The meeting conducted with the line departments sought to ascertain the preparedness of the department to face the monsoon and assess the vulnerability of the district.
The Collector advised line departments to identify and map vulnerable areas, create a database of identified areas with first responders and check their preparedness through relief camps and essential equipment.
It was also evaluated in terms of readiness for interventions, rescue and rescue operations with earthmoving machines, inflatable and motor boats, tree cutters, fire extinguishers, diesel generators, sandbags and wooden logs and others.
The Revenue and Public Works Department was directed to ensure desilting of watercourses and establishment of embankments and culverts to prevent flooding and inundation. The collector also directed the local authorities to visit the low-lying areas and clean the drainage channels.
