Collector assesses drinking water supply in Villupuram
District Collector Sheik Abdul Rahman chaired a review meeting on seamless water supply and distribution in Villupuram district on Monday.
Mr. Rahman directed the panchayat secretaries and upper reservoir operators to plug the leaks in the upper reservoirs, plug the wastage and address water shortage complaints immediately and without delay. He said that steps have been initiated to sink nine more borewells to supply piped water to areas in Villupuram municipality.
Regular water supply
Officials have also been instructed to ensure regular supply in all town panchayats and village panchayats.
The Collector also instructed officials to identify areas in Gingee, Olakkur, Melmalayanur and Kanai blocks that may face water scarcity and to strengthen the existing water resources using Panchayat funds. Repairs to motor pumps and leaks and cracks in piping must be promptly repaired and returned to public use.
Public complaints regarding drinking water must be resolved within 24 hours and mass cleaning drives must be conducted at all local bodies every Friday. Areas prone to water stagnation should be identified immediately to avoid problems even in light rain and pre-monsoon siltation and flood prevention work must be completed in time without delay, he said.
