
The report prepared by the District Administration of Alappuzha to maintain Lake Vembanad was submitted to the main Minister Pinaray Vijayan Alex Varghes on Friday.
The document includes a summary of activities organized in the district under the auspices of the district administration and local self -governing bodies together with the recommendations of the submitted expert committees for the rejuvenation of the lake.
Previously, within the project of rejuvenation of Vembanad Lake, eight subcommitations were created after the workshop, which linked political and cultural leaders, environmental scientists, farmers, fishermen and representatives of local self -governing institutions. Sub-promotion-based agriculture, biodiversity, hygiene, water resources, fishing, tourism, disasters and revenue-have preceded the recommendations and proposals for the preservation of the lake.
The designs checked
“The expert for the expert reviewed the short and long -term proposals submitted by the subcommittee, after which the final report was submitted to the State Government,” Mr. Varghese said.
The report contains main recommendations such as biopoding for biology, protection of water and other species facing extinct threats, control of growth of water invasive species, establishment of wastewater treatment plants and fecal sludge treatment plants in the kuttanad area.
Ecological agriculture
It also sugges promoting organic Farming on Gradual Basis, Preparing and Crop Calendar, Implementing Integrated Farming of Paddy, Fish, Duck, and Vegetables, Adopting Good Agricultural Practice, Introduction Climate Resilient Farming Methods Through The Vadayar Diversion Project to Control Water Pollutation and Salinity, Establishing and Vembanad Wetland Interpretation Center and Ensuring Protection From Floods Caused By Rainwater and Tidal Inflow.
Within the project of rejuvenation of the Vembanad lake, 28.72 tonnes of plastic waste were removed and removed from the water boda using volunteers in recent months.
