The wide coalition of environmental organizations and groups of civil society condemned the proposed bill on the protection of wild animals (kerala alhtment) 2025, which called it regressive, unscientific and potentially destructive movement.
The team of “coexistence, kerala” said that far from strengthening the protection of human or wildlife interests, he instead represents political distortion, ecological irresponsibility and legal circumvention of professional powers.
In its statement, the group accused the state government of abandoning the scientific process, ignoring statutory institutions and violations of constitutional and legal obligations in the desperate behavior of “ruthless political populism” through experiments on how to respond to the conflicts of human and Tistina.
According to The Collective, the bill lacks a scientific basis that has been introduced without consultation with wildlife experts, biologists, research institutions or established protective organizations. There was no ecological survey or research that would support the proposed measures. They warned that such ignorance could escalate the conflict and result in irreparable environmental damage.
They also claimed that the role of the main guardian of wild animals as a legal body under the Act on Wild Animals (protection) of 1972 was also completely bypass. No written or oral representation has been requested from the higher official, which raised questions about the legitimacy of the legislative process.
The group also refers to the alleged bill to provide large powers to kill wild animals that are suspected of damage to people. They warn that this “first shooting” approach ignores the possibility of wrong identity, can potentially support the non -distinctive killing of endangered species, and bypass existing warranty in the Wild Living Act
They also raised serious concerns about the proposed transfer of powers from the center to the state government to declare any species as “pests”. Such a step, if adopted, would open the door to the mass killing under local political pressure, the collapse of ecological balance and violated international environmental agreements, such as the Biological Diversity Convention (CBD) and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Fauna and Flora (CITES).
Also, the bill does not deal with the main causes of human and tistin conflict, such as the destruction of habitats, hunting, deforestation and unregulated land use.
The signatories included Wayanad Prakruthi Samrakshan Samithi President N. Badusha, Vena Maruthoor, TV Rajan, E. Kunhikrishnan, Sridhar Radhakrishna and S. Usha.
