The Karnataka Natural Disaster Monitoring Center (KSNDMC) has predicted a drop in minimum temperature in the south interior regions of Karnataka and Malnad from December 12 to 16.
The KSNDMC report said minimum temperatures are likely to be 4°C to 6°C below normal over South Interior Karnataka and Malnad districts, resulting in cold wave to severe cold wave at several places in the region.
The minimum temperature recorded during the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Thursday indicated that Mysuru recorded a minimum of 14.5 degrees Celsius while Mandya recorded 13.5 degrees C. Chamarajanagar recorded 13.9 degrees C while Hassan recorded 13.4 degrees C. Kodagu, however, was relatively warm and the minimum temperature during the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Thursday was, according to KSNDMC 16.9 degrees C.
The lowest temperature in the state was recorded in Bidar (10 degrees C) followed by Kalaburagi which recorded 10.4 degrees C. Cold wave conditions with temperature dropping by 2 to 4 degrees below normal will also be experienced in many districts of North Karnataka region, according to the KSNDMC report.
It said multiple layers of clothing would be helpful in weathering the cold wave and urged people to stay indoors as much as possible and minimize travel to avoid exposure to cold winds.
