Coir Board undertakes to create 15 coir clusters in AP

MS Coir Board Secretary Lakshmi Priya said that India’s Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has committed to setting up 15 coir clusters in Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking during the inaugural session of the two-day Konaseema Coir Conclave-2026 on Thursday, Ms. Priya said that the district Dr. BR Ambedkar Konaseema has raw material potential for coir sector to encourage setting up of coir based units. The conclave concluded on Friday in Amalapuram.

The Ministry of MSME in collaboration with the Coir Board and the Horticulture Department organized a two-day conclave to explore the potential for the coir sector in the Godavari region.

Dr. BR Ambedkar Konaseema District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar announced that an action plan has been prepared to set up 20 coir based MSME units in the district during the next quarter.

Stakeholders including entrepreneurs, coconut farmers, self-help groups and farmer organizers will be provided technology, marketing and branding support, Mahesh Kumar said. Coir Development Department, Kerala, Director Sameer Krishna shared the potential and experience of Kerala state in the coir industry and trade and export potential for coir products.

Waikon Joint Collector Nydia Devi in ​​the concluding session ensured skill enhancement and technological support for those interested in setting up coir based units in the district. Local artisans and young entrepreneurs exhibited their coir products during the conclave.
