The Cockroach Janata PartyAccording to founder Abhijeet Dipke, (CJP) X’s account in India was suspended in response to a legal request.
“Cockroach Janta Party account was launched on May 16. Within 4 days the account was blocked as it had more than 200K followers,” the founder wrote on X. Mr. Dipke also claimed that attempts were made to hack CJP’s Instagram handle.
Two hours after the announcement, Mr. Dipke announced that he had set up a new account called ‘The Cockroach is Back’ on X. He informed the agency that the team would handle the matter legally.”
At 3:40 p.m., a little over an hour after the start, the ‘Cockroach is Back’ X clique had 16,800 followers.
CJP is a satirical political movement founded on May 16 by Mr. Dipke, a former political strategist of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The platform was launched in response to CJI Surya Kant’s comment describing young, unemployed Indians as “cockroaches”. Later, the CJI issued a clarification that he had been “misquoted” by the media.
The movement became an internet sensation, garnering over 14.5 million followers on Instagram, surpassing the BJP’s 8.8 million followers.
Several other accounts using the “cockroach” nomenclature remain active on X. These include “The Cockroach Youth”, “Cockroach News”, “IAmCockroach”, “Cockroach Party of India” and “Cockroach Janata Party (Gen Z)”.
Politicians including TMC leaders Mahua Moitra and Kirti Azad joined or expressed interest in the movement, along with activists such as Prashant Bhushan and Anjali Bharadwaj.
What began as an online satire project soon evolved into a broader conversation about contemporary protest and the role of humor and meme culture in it.
