
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG), Maritime Rescue Sub-Center, Kochi, on Wednesday found and rescued a fisherman who went missing from a fishing boat on Monday evening.
The incident occurred nearly 27 km off the coast of Kochi. Fisherman Ranjumoni Sonowal (40) was adrift at sea without food or water for about 36 hours before he was found by the ICG Arnvesh.
Mr. Sonowal, a crew member of a fishing vessel registered in Tamil Nadu, went missing while the boat was returning after fishing.
An airstrike by a Coast Guard aircraft was also launched to increase the search effort. The rescued fisherman was given immediate first aid by Coast Guard personnel on board and was taken to a hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment, according to the release.
