Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) national president KM Kader Mohideen on Saturday said that Tamil Nadu has started a coalition government on the lines of Kerala and it will continue in the future.

“C. Joseph Vijay has made a fresh start in Tamil Nadu politics. He will stay in Tamil Nadu,” he told The Hindu. He claimed that even in 1967 there was a possibility of forming a coalition government, but the DMK secured the majority on its own. “C. Rajagopalachari and Quaid-e-Millath, who were part of the DMK alliance, gave their consent for the DMK to form its own government. After that, nobody seriously talked about a coalition government,” he said.

Mr. Mohideen reiterated that for Muslim votes, DMK could not win many seats in the elections. “Victory of Udhayanidhi Stalin, KN Nehru and DMK candidate from Palayamkottai Abdul Wahab was possible because of Muslim votes. We politicized the community to vote for DMK. Let them study the electoral pattern in the constituencies they won,” he said.

He explained that the IUML must respect the prevailing sentiment within the community in favor of supporting and joining the TVK government. “Our community felt that this was the best way to prevent the BJP from imposing President’s rule,” I have been receiving calls from within the country and abroad urging me to be part of the government,” he said.

Asked whether IUML would continue as part of the DMK alliance in future, he said only time would tell.
