CNG supply to the financial capital was affected on Sunday due to damage to the main pipeline, Mahangar Gas (MGL) said.
Most autorickshaws and taxis, including those operated by companies such as Ola and Uber, as well as some buses operated by public transport companies, run on compressed natural gas (CNG) supplied by MGL.
However, the gas company said it has “prioritized” residential deliveries to ensure natural gas deliveries to homes continue.
“Due to third party damage in GAIL (Gas Authority of India) main gas pipeline inside RCF (Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertiliser) compound, gas supply to MGL’s City Gate Station (CGS) at Wadal has been affected,” the company said in a statement.
CNG stations in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai, including dedicated CNG stations for public transport undertakings, are “not allowed to function” due to the stoppage of gas supply to CGS Wadala and hence MGL’s pipeline network, it added.
The company did not give any date by which gas supply would be restored, nor did it specify the reasons for the damage to the critical pipeline.
MGL advised its industrial and commercial customers in the affected areas to “switch to alternative fuel”.
“Gas supply in the MGL network will be normalized once the damage is repaired and supply to CGS Wadala is restored,” MGL said in a statement, regretting the inconvenience caused.
