The Office of the Chief Minister (CMO) hit the Health Department to issue a directive on the creation of the necessary instructions to ensure that all births of children in the state, including the birth of children between the families of the huge populations of migrating workers, are safely carried out here in hospitals.
The Chief Minister’s office tried to provide this directive after written communication and dismissing K. Prathiby, a medical officer in the Tanur Community Health Center in Malappuram, who pointed out that many migrating families continued to decide for home births.
Dr. Prathibha in his letter to the Chief Minister Pinaayi Vijayan pointed out an incident that recently took place in Kizhakkamball in Ernakulm district, where the wife of a migrating worker from Assam gave birth to twins at home. However, both newborns could not be rescued, while the mother had to be in a serious condition hurried to the hospital.

A similar incident happened a few months ago in Thrissur, where other women migrating had to be hospitalized on an emergency basis after giving birth at home.
It’s not the first time Dr. Prathibha hits safe motherhood. Last year, the High Court in Kerala moved and demanded that the state and rules be framed by the state to regulate domestic birth.

It pointed out that despite the care of the state, to ensure almost 100% institutional delivery and continuous prenatal care and support to ensure safe motherhood, vulnerable populations such as migrating workers, remain on the edge.
“Many migrant workers now bring their families with them. We have to have a system in order for the local government to be informed about the families of migrants located in their location. Once healthchers are involved, they will take care of regular monitoring of these migrant families, including women and children,” Dr. Prathibha.
