DMK president MK Stalin on Monday (Oct 19, 2026) accused Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay of his negligence costing lives in Tamil Nadu and urged him to focus on the police department instead of “resting”.

“Cases of violence and murders and seizures of drugs by central authorities show that the chief minister is not paying enough attention to the police department. Mr. Chief, your carelessness is costing lives. You have advised people to give up drugs and take up sports. You should give up rest first,” he said in a post on social media.

Mr. Stalin said the killing of the historian Madan, who was out on bail, raised questions about whether those on bail were being watched.

“A nurse was sexually assaulted and murdered near Perundurai. Police could recover her body only after five days. Offices ruling TVK are using state governments and indulging in drug smuggling,” he said.

Mr. Stalin wondered if the TVK members learn such activities by watching movies starring Mr. Vijay. “Can’t the police catch them or are they turning a blind eye because they are members of the ruling party?” he asked.

He said if the chief minister was really determined to curb the drug menace, he should first rein in his party members. In order to do this, he had to control the police department.

“But what is going on? Mr. Vijay is holding the post of Chief Minister only nominally. He has outsourced the police department because he has already left several topics to other ministers?” he asked.
