CM Vijay’s body language during rally address was not dignified: Thirumavalavan

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) founder and MP Chidambaram, Thol. Thirumavalavan on Wednesday said Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s “body language” during his recent reply to a grant application in the State Assembly did not reflect a “dignified attitude” and was against human dignity.

In a statement, Mr. Thirumavalavan criticized the Chief Minister’s body language, which he said appeared to mock DMK president MK Stalin’s appearance.

“Under no circumstances is it civilized to diminish or injure a person’s sense of self-respect. Political criticism aimed at an individual is one thing; criticism that personally injures an individual’s self-esteem is another. An approach that injures even an ordinary person who does not have the advantages of education, economic means or authority can never be acceptable,” he said.

He also said that the Chief Minister must be more careful as he holds an office of immense dignity and responsibility.

Mr. Thirumavalavan said, “Following the Chief Minister’s response, the DMK the next day asked that certain parts of the Chief Minister’s speech be expunged from the records of the assembly. During the discussion, the Law Minister intervened and made a statement which constituted a historic mistake. The nature of state terror unleashed during the MISA period. It is well known that the MISA statement was well known throughout the country. DMK President who has been subjected to this brutal repression, we urge the Minister to announce that he withdraws statement.
