Chief Minister Siddaramaiah presented the second supplementary estimates (second installment) of ₹ 6,279.87 crore in the Legislative Assembly in Belagavi on Tuesday.
The supplementary estimates include ₹ 6,256.41 crore of voted expenditure, meant for various schemes, and ₹ 23.46 crore of billed expenditure. The total expenditure from the consolidated fund is ₹ 5,661.76 crore. Of this, ₹2,240.32 crore is covered by central assistance, the chief minister said in his opening remarks.
The amount would come from revenue and, if necessary, through “a reassessment of spending priorities and likely savings in spending and borrowing,” he said.
The estimates include ₹ 629.65 crore for the Department of Social Welfare, ₹ 1,935.96 crore for the Department of Revenue, ₹ 127.9 crore for the Department of Education, ₹ 338.35 crore for the Department of Forests, ₹ 338.35 crore for Commerce, Trade and Commerce, and ₹ 4,410 crore for the Labor Department, among others.
Additional estimates include ₹75 crore for the Higher Education Department and the amount is for pension grants to universities in the state. State universities are struggling to pay pensions to their employees. The estimates include ₹9.12 crore, which the home ministry would use for infrastructure development in Naxal-affected areas.
