Chief Minister DK Shivakumar will visit Belagavi district on October 25 and 26 to attend Kittur Utsav and hold separate meetings with sugar mill owners and sugarcane growers to discuss their demands.
Mr. Shivakumar will arrive at Sambra Airport on October 25 at 4:40 PM on a special flight from Mysuru. He will drive to Kittur by road and attend the Kittur Utsav program at 5.20 pm. He will stay overnight in Belagavi.
On October 26, the Chief Minister will inaugurate the Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti celebrations and procession at 10 am in Belagavi. He will then meet sugar factory owners at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha at 11:00 am.
He will visit Yellammana Gudda at 1:30 pm to lay foundation stones for various development works. He will return to Suvarna Vidhana Soudha at 3.30 pm to meet the sugarcane farmers.
The meetings assume significance as the Chief Minister himself met the protesting farmers in Kittur last week during their ‘Hubballi Chalo’ agitation and told them that he would soon call a farmers’ meeting on the issue.
Despite his request to withdraw the agitation, the protesting farmers continued the agitation only to call it off temporarily a day before the Dasara festival after another late night meeting with Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and subsequent discussions with other farmer leaders.
The chief minister’s meeting is expected to focus on the demands of farmers and the concerns of sugar mill owners.
Mr. Shivakumar is scheduled to leave for Bengaluru on a special flight on October 26 at 6:30 pm.
“I’ll call a bandh”
Meanwhile, Karnataka state president Rajya Raita Sangha and Hasiru Sene Chunappa Pujeri said they will call for a ‘Karnataka Bandh’ on October 27 if their demands are not met during the meeting with the Chief Minister on October 26.
He told reporters here on Saturday that they hope the government will fulfill their demands.
