Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has dismissed the deliberate delay in the probe into the wiretapping case by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), attributing it to an administrative delay in the return of former SIB chief and prime accused T. Prabhakar Rao from the US.
In an informal chat with reporters, he refused to accept the BJP’s allegation that the government was deliberately delaying the investigation, saying that Mr. Prabhakar Rao fled to the US days after the case was booked and it took 25 months for the government to secure his return.
Mr Reddy said the Central Government had not cooperated with the State Government in facilitating Mr Rao’s early return. His return was possible only after orders from the Supreme Court. According to him, the progress of the investigation has slowed down due to the absence of the main accused.
The CM argued that the investigation had gained momentum in the last two months and it had also led to the questioning of former CM K. Chandrashekhar Rao and former ministers KT Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao over their role in the phone tapping.
On the reorganization of districts, Mr. Reddy clarified that the exercise cannot begin until the Center lifts the freeze on administrative boundaries due to the census, which will be completed only in March 2027.
He also clarified that the government plans to reorganize the boundaries of districts, revenue divisions and mandals as they were unscientifically created by the BRS government. The much-needed rationalization will be carried out after a discussion in the House, during which the views of the opposition parties will also be included.
Mr. Reddy predicted an increase in Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies after the delimitation of constituencies, which will begin after the completion of the census. Women are likely to get more seats, with 33% reservation likely to be implemented.
The CM reaffirmed his belief that the Telangana Assembly elections will be held in May 2029 along with the Lok Sabha general elections, instead of December 2028, as per the current schedule.
Mr. Reddy said the CBI’s investigation into the Kaleshwaram project case is ongoing despite the government giving its nod in September 2025, and the Formula E race case is being heard by the Enforcement Directorate. The BJP said it was deliberately delaying the investigation.
